The Best Places To Live Near America’s Biggest Cities

There’s little doubt that the United States has some of the best cities in the world. These are places where you’ll find some of the very best culture, nightlife, career opportunities, and much more. However, while there’s much to love about places like Los Angeles and New York, it’s not as if they’re entirely without their problems. They can be crowded, chaotic, expensive. You have to really love the place if you’re going to stay there.

However, who says that you need to live there? There are plenty of great cities and towns near America’s most cosmopolitan cities. The pandemic has changed the way we work. Many large companies are allowing their workforce to work from home. As a result, we’re seeing people move out of expensive cities and into the suburbs but still staying within commuting distance. In this blog, we’re going to run through some of the best next to America’s biggest cities.

Near LA: Rancho-Palos-Verdes

Los Angeles can be a dream, but it can also be a nightmare. While LA is rich in arts, culture, and entertainment but it’s not for everyone. You may not want to live in the middle of LA but there are plenty of advantages to being near it. So where do you go? Rancho-Palos-Verdes seems as good a place as any. Located on a peninsula, you have to go out of your way to get there, which few people do. The result is a charming beachside community 30 minutes from downtown LA. Perfect. Enjoy the best coffee shops, parks, and dramatic views of the Pacific Ocean.

Near New York: Fairfield, CT

There are plenty of great places to live within New York; the issue is that most of them already have people living in them, and if one does come available, you’ll have to pay through the roof to get it. Plus, NYC can be hectic and overwhelming. As someone who once lived and worked in NYC, I know city life can take a toll. So if you’re looking for a place near the Big Apple, consider Fairfield, CT. There are plenty of Fairfield homes for sale, so you’ll have your pick of properties. The cost of living is lower and you’ll get a bigger bang for your buck. Once you’ve moved into this quiet and charming community, you’ll be just one hour away from Manhattan.

Near Chicago: Clarendon Hills

Chicago is a big player on the global stage, which means it has a lot to offer. However, it faces the same kinds of issues that other big cities do. As such, many people that live there want to be near Chicago, but not in it. There are plenty of great towns near the Windy City, but the best is Clarendon Hills. It’s a pleasant area full of parks and great schools. You can visit the Morton Arboretum with its sprawling garden and nature preserve or take a hike to see a waterfall at Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve.

Near Houston: The Woodlands

And finally, there’s Houston. Somewhat surprisingly, this might be the most liveable city on this list. Still, it’s not always ideal to live downtown. If that doesn’t appeal, then look at going to The Woodlands. There’s much to love about this space, including some 200 miles of walking and biking trails, 6000 acres of green space, and much more. It’s like a little slice of heaven just outside the Loop -- and people rightly love it.
