Overlooked Essentials That You’ll Need on Moving Day

The process of moving can be a daunting task from start to finish. As you get closer to moving day, things get a little bit more hectic but you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  It is important to remember some of the essentials that can be overlooked for moving day that can make a big difference during the physical move. You don’t want to have to frantically be searching for your phone charger on the day of the move or once you’re in your new home.

Getting a local professional moving company can also help to make moving day itself much less stressful, but it will all depend on your budget. But here are some of the essentials you need to have on hand to make your moving day a success, and a much less stressful one at that!

Pack a suitcase

Your belongings will be in boxes and while marking the boxes is a great idea, essential items can still get misplaced in the shuffle. Pack a suitcase as if you’re going on vacation for a few days. This keeps all of the daily items you’ll need in one place. If you’re moving from a long distance, this is especially important. Packing a suitcase with everything you need for a few days will make unpacking a lot less stressful. You can pack everything from a few sets of clothing, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap and other personal items like contact lenses and solutions.

Basic cleaning supplies

When you walk into your new home, it could be all good to go and good as new. However, if you are moving into a home that has been lived in, you may need to do some initial cleaning. Paper towels, toilet paper, trash can liners, dish soap, laundry supplies, bleach, and disinfectant are all good things to have on hand, so that you can just grab them when you need them. Disinfectant wipes and baby wipes are also handy to have on hand.

Chargers & batteries

We live on devices these days; smart phones, laptops, tablets help us with everything from school, work, banking, and simply ordering food. If you don’t keep the device and chargers together, designate a bag with all the chargers you’ll need. I suggest putting each one in a ziploc bag and label them with the device it belongs to. You should also have a few batteries on hand for things like tv or fan remotes and children’s toys.

Tools

You’ll want to have some tools on hand after moving in. You’ll likely be putting furniture back together and unpacking everything to find a toolbox will be a hassle. There may be other small fixes that you’ll need to make such as loose door handles or hanging things on the wall.
